Research Technology Skills
Hands-on training in digital research methods, academic databases, citation tools, and information evaluation—for students, scholars, and professionals who need reliable results.
Strong research skills are essential for academic success, professional credibility, and informed decision-making—yet many learners struggle with digital research tools, source evaluation, and proper citation in an era of information overload. Search engines return millions of results in seconds, but knowing which sources are credible, how to access peer-reviewed literature, and how to organize findings across a semester-long project requires training that schools rarely provide in depth. Global Training Network provides research technology skills training that equips participants to find, evaluate, organize, and cite information using modern digital tools and established scholarly methods.
Our programs cover search strategies for academic databases and library resources, advanced Google Scholar techniques, reference management tools such as Zotero and Mendeley, and proper citation formats including APA, MLA, and Chicago. We also teach critical information literacy: distinguishing peer-reviewed sources from popular media, recognizing bias, and avoiding plagiarism in both traditional and AI-assisted research environments. Training is practical and immediately applicable to essays, theses, policy briefs, and professional reports. Learners work through real research questions, building workflows they can repeat independently long after the workshop ends. We also cover note-taking, annotation, and synthesis skills that turn collected sources into coherent arguments. Graduate students receive additional support for literature reviews and long-form project organization. Instructors provide feedback on your actual assignments when coaching is part of your package.
GTN serves high school and post-secondary students, graduate researchers, educators, and professionals who need to produce well-sourced work. Sessions are available as workshops, course-integrated modules, or individualized coaching—in person or online. We meet learners at their level, from first-time university students encountering academic databases to experienced researchers updating their workflow with new technology. By completing our training, you will research faster, cite accurately, and produce work that meets the standards of Canadian and international academic and professional institutions. Contact GTN to discuss workshops, semester coaching, or course-integrated research skills modules.
